Need recommendation for a repair shop

Hi Klocknack!

Apologies for writing in English. I hope that's ok

I'm looking for a repair shop that will take this Mickey Mouse watch. It's a mechanical watch that mostly works, but it has started to stop randomly. I am pretty sure that the only thing it needs is a bit of lubrication since it has never been serviced. The watch is from 2004.

I've been to several shops but they all tell me the same thing. Since they don't know the brand of the watch, they don't want to touch it. They tell me that if a piece breaks during the process the watch is as good as dead, since they won't be able to find replacement pieces.

As it is right now the watch is very annoying to use. Sometimes I go 2 weeks with the watch working flawlessly, and some times it stops 3 times a day.

I live in Karlstad but travel often to Stockholm. Any ideas on where I could take it?

It's not an expensive watch but I'm really attached to it, and it would be nice to get it back to life.

Please take a more detailed image on the movement. Is there any stamps below the balance wheel? Or indications on what movement it is?

Hi Joakim. Here is a better picture of the movement. There is no brand to be seen as far as i can see. It just says China movement, 20 Jewels unadjustted china. Then Disney shareholder limited edition.

I hope this helps!

Ok, seems to be Chinese movement DG1800. A complete new movement cost about 23£ plus shipment and VAT. So it’s a very cheap movement and spare parts are easily obtained. Not the engraved bridges though.
Not sure how much you think it’s worth investing in the watch but if you want assistance with servicing it I can help you. Send a PM.

Great that you identified it! So the movement needs to be replaced entirely? It can't be lubricated? And just to double check. If it gets replaced the engraved parts that says Disney would dissapear? I'll send you a DM :)

My initial thought was to buy a new movement, then move the engraved bridges onto the new movement and oil them correctly. But first clean them properly. It could potentially be fine to just service the current movement, will take a bit more time and there can be wear when parts are examined. But if you want that is perfectly fine as well, if you want to keep the movement as original as possible.

I can't add value to the technical aspects of the conversation, but I can add that Joakim is highly skilled and a well-trusted member here, so rest assured that you are in good hands.
