Inofficiella Traska-tråden: "For those who know"

Fick hem denna i fredags, Commuter 36 Arctic White

Fick hem min Commuter i fredags. Fick sätta i andra sprintar.

Hey, Jon here.

You often hear watch brands speak of their wins, big sales, awards, reviews, and so on. Today, I thought we’d do something different. We’d speak about a failure.

The thing is, we’re more proud of this failure than we are of many of the successes we’ve experienced along the way.

This is a bit of a long story. Settle down. Grab a warm drink. You’ll want to read this at your own pace.

We tried to do something different

Over seven years, we’ve quietly built up a reputation for making vintage-inspired watches that go the distance. We didn’t (and still don’t) have big investors, media budgets, or a celebrity backer. Just a true love for this little corner of the watch world. Thanks to the constant input and support of this community, we’ve grown quicker and bigger than I would have ever thought possible.

A couple of weeks ago, roaming the streets of Prague, I passed by someone wearing a Venturer (it was the Steel Blue). This has never happened to me before, though members of the team have had similar moments everywhere from airports to embassies. This is a signal: TRASKA has arrived.

We will always remain true to this community and our ethos of purposeful minimalism. At the same time, we wanted to try something new. Something that scared us. Something the likes of which has never been seen before from a brand of our size.

We knew this wasn’t the logical next move

Releasing another vintage-inspired sport watch would be the logical thing to do. While our collection has evolved constantly, it’s been several years since our last new release. Creating a new watch consistent with our past collection would play to our strengths, and it would be what people expect from us.

As humans, we’re constantly building a framework about why things are the way they are, how things work, and hell, even why things don’t work. It’s just in our nature. Sometimes, these frameworks take you to surprising places, and I have lately found that our most rewarding decisions are often the least logical ones.

Risking altitude sickness to take your kid to see Mt Everest isn’t logical. Driving across Morocco in a dilapidated car isn’t logical. Starting a watch brand with no capital or business experience isn’t logical… as many well-meaning friends liked to point out at the time.

We decided to go in the opposite direction

Maybe, we wanted to be scared again. To feel that same all or nothing fear we felt during those heady, early days. Maybe, that’s why we tore up the rulebook…

…… We didn’t constrain ourselves to what we "should" have been making, and we didn't go it alone. We teamed up with one of today's most renowned watch designers, unshackled our combined creativity, and followed our instincts far beyond the limits of our comfort zone.

The result? A watch that integrates innovation naturally, organically, beautifully. One that surprises yet doesn’t scream for attention. Something new, yet not gimmicky. Complex, yet not forced. Grounded in the purposeful minimalism we’ve become known for, where everything exists for a reason.

At least, that was the plan

We were all set to make a subtle announcement, a teaser if you will, of the new watch. But the prototype I’m looking at right now? I’m sorry to say, it just doesn’t quite cut it. I like it, but I am not (yet) floored. The process of rendering an idea in hardened stainless steel has never been easy, and the technical ambition of this new piece greatly exceeds anything we’ve ever attempted before.

So, we’re holding back. Rather than release something to you that falls short of our highest aspirations, we’re waiting just a little bit longer. Maybe it’s just a couple more weeks. Maybe this becomes a 2026 or even 2027 story. We’re in this for the long haul, and would rather fail at doing something that scares and excites us than succeed at something predictable or, worse, mediocre.

Meanwhile, our core collection has never been better

The good thing about having a team is that while Gabby is helping you out with your questions and Dylan is making sure you get your orders at lightning speed, most of my energy has been dedicated to watchmaking. I’ve not just been focusing on our new project, but also relentlessly refining the current pieces in our collection.

Year by year, tweak by tweak, we have striven to make The Freediver, the Summiteer, the Commuter, the Venturer, and the Seafarer a little bit better than before. In this, we have succeeded. Compare the latest generation of one of these models with its first iteration, and it’s staggering to see how far we have come.

The changes between generations of the same watch are often quite minute, but together, over the years, each watch has evolved to become something truly magnificent, every facet meticulously thought through and designed with absolute intention. All of these pieces, except for the Venturer and one or two sold-out colorways, are available now.

The Venturer will be returning early next month sporting the same improvements we recently rolled out to the Commuter, Freediver, and Summiteer — even clearer crystals, better, brighter lume, and quick-release spring bars for easy bracelet changes.

As for the new model? I have a feeling some more information will leak out soon. But for now, that’s all the watch news for today,
