I am from Denmark so my 2 cents in English to avoid misunderstandings.
This thread was brought to my attention via a danish watch forum and I thought that I would also comment on the case
I know Mads and I have done some deals with the guy and I have nothing but positive experiences, but I'll try to remain unbiased. Mads knows all there is to know about vintage Rolex, AP and Pateks – But honestly to expect from a greymarket seller that he should know every specific detail around every reference from every brand is ludicrous. You would have to be Rainman to do that.
That being said, I do FULLY agree that errors should be corrected and to my understanding Mads has also tried to do this by offering a compensation or return ( initially at a lower price though), but has been faced with a buyer who was not willing to negotiate, even though he is also at fault to a small extent here by using the watch. And lets be honest guys, it is not like it's a different watch that has been delivered. We're talking about an inner pillow of a Panerai Box (as far as I know the wooden box itself is the same for a lot of other Panerai references, but then again I am no Panerai specialist at all), as well as a plastic crystal – and not a LE watch. Not exactly something that warrants for example an 8.000 SEK discount (don't know what the buyer had in mind so just an example). If it had been MISSING the box or warranty for that matter, it would be an entirely different case altogether and I would have no issue claiming a 8-10.000 SEK deduction.
Mads has offered to return the watch for a full refund, so In my opinion case closed, buyer is happy.
What I DON'T like is the type of ISIL style lynchmob justice practiced in this particular thread, where Mads is be-headed before he has had a chance to tell his side of the story. I don't blame him for pulling the plug.
Additionally I have zero respect for people who create a userprofile on a danish forum, with the sole intention to slander another user/seller in his first and only post ever just to cause as much damage as possible. That truly makes me want to vomit.
But I am happy that the case has found its solution and hopefully everyone can move on
I've read the thread that you referred to on the danish forum and to my surprise your buddy Mads isn't telling the whole story.
In the thread he says that he offered the customer to return the watch within the 14days, so far correct, he's leaving out the part that Victor says he's still happy with the watch even though the plexi is missing and will not return the watch. That's the first contact...
The second contact comes after Mads 14-day return policy and this time, the buyer, in this case Viktor, explain for Mads that he think that the box isn't correct for the watch. Mads tells Viktor that he will look into it and get back. Mads doesn't get back to Viktor so Viktor decides, by himself, to contact Panerai and the answer he gets is that the innerbox Viktor got from Mads is wrong.
Viktor confronts Mads with this information and gives Mads three options.
1. Fix the original innerbox and the plexi.
2. Part-refund
3. Full return
When Viktor forwarded the information from Panerai, he stopped using the watch. Mads solution to this was to contact Klarlunds and they couldn't help with the box, because Panerai doesn't sell these boxes so Mads went for option number two in this case. Part-refund. Mads solution to this is to offer a 1000DKK so that Victor can buy the missing box and plexi by himself, well, by now we all know that this isn't possible since the Panerai AD can't arrange with a new box. So the 1000DKK is now a compensation for a watch thats not fullset, a watch that was sold as a fullset.. Now, were talking a lower value of the complete set. The difference between a fullset PAM372 and one that's not, is somewhere between 5-9,000SEK if you compare to the international prices. Should Viktor be satisfied with the part refund Mads is offering? Should Viktor now accept the third solution Mads is presenting? The one where he offers to take it back but without refund the whole amount? He want Viktor to take a hit on 3-5000DKK and this on a watch he's already made a profit from. He want's Viktor to take the hit for his own mistake by presenting the watch as a
"like new from AD", "with all the accessories as sold from AD"..
It doesn't stop there. The advert on his website said that the watch was from 2014 but it turns out that the watch is an O-serie so it's produced in 2012.
It's a shame all of this, but Mads had this coming by acting like a turd towards his customer. Mads can be a pro on Rolex, Patek and so on.. But when he advert this watch as a fullset watch with all the boxes and accessories he also has to take the blame for it when it turns out that it's not. We don't expect Mads to be Rainman, but we do expect him to take his responsibility for his own misstake.
It's a pitty all this and Mads made this himself, by acting quibbling towards his customer Viktor. If he took his responsibility towards Viktor and offered a refund from the beginning, he would have had so much positive comments for how he handled the situation, instead he choose the other path, this path.
The thing that bothers me the most is that Mads is acting like the victim here and as far I can see, still thinks he hasn't done anything wrong. Yes, he offered a full refund after this thread was presented but instead of saying, Hey, I did a misstake and I'm taking full responsibility, he now take a run for the woods and plays the victim.
He had been able to walk away with honor intact but opted for something completely different. I'm happy for Viktor that it sorted out and I'm as happy to see that a seller like Mads is leaving the forum. Mads should think twice the next time he acts Rainman.
